Description / Background

This large bronze honour roll lists the names of 37 veterans of Inverell and district who served in the First and Second Gulf Wars, Afghanistan, and in peacekeeping missions in which Australia has been involved.

The roll was made by the Phoenix Foundry of Uralla, NSW. They have created numerous memorial plaques throughout Australia. It is similar in style to the Inverell Korea, Malaysia and Vietnam Honour Roll, which also hangs on the front of the entrance building to the Inverell Memorial and District Olympic Pool.

Both rolls have Art Deco details at the top and feature a stylised emblem of the Australian Defence Force. It includes the the Rising Sun badge of the Australian Army, wings for the Royal Australian Air Force, and an anchor for the Royal Australian Navy.

The Inverell RSL sub-Branch describes this memorial as commemorating 'recent conflicts'. It was included in the re-dedication of the Inverell War Memorial on Anzac Day, 25 April 2015. The re-dedication was conducted by: Colin Isaccs, Aboriginal Elder from the Jukumbal tribe, part of the Gamilaroi Nation; Rob Tickle, Honorary Chaplain from the Salvation Army; Reverend Jean Bell, Inverell Uniting Church; and Reverend Vicar Adam Draycott, St Augustine's Anglican Church.

Throughout the year, various commemorative services are held at the war memorial, which is located in front of the pool building.
