Description / Background

This war memorial is a full-sized metal sculpture, possibly made of copper, of a horse and a human. It is titled 'Last Farewell' and depicts the human stroking the horse's neck, while holding its left leg. At the base of the sculpture is a plinth, bearing a plaque.

The sculpture is a representation of a First World War light horseman, saying goodbye to his horse. The plaque outlines that only one horse returned to Australia at the end of the war.

The memorial is located in Remount Park in Holsworthy, NSW.
