Description / Background

This timber honour roll lists the names of 15 members of the United Grand Lodge (U.G.L.) NSW who served in the First and Second World Wars. Their names are neatly printed in gold across two columns on the board.

The men all belonged to Tenterfield Lodge number 55. Membership of these lodges meant there was a fund to assist members who served in the Australian armed forces.

The memorial is simply designed, with no decorations or illustrations. However, the top edge of the board has been cut with several angles, giving the pediment an interesting, geometric appearance.

It is not known if the roll was officially unveiled. Though, it is reasonable to assume it was made after the end of the Second World War, as the names are listed in alphabetical order. If an unveiling ceremony took place, it was likely conducted at the Tenterfield Masonic Lodge rooms, which were in operation from January 1890. The ceremony would likely have been led by one or more of the officer bearers of the lodge.

The roll is now located in the RSL Pavilion of the Tenterfield and District Soldiers Memorial Hall. It is available for viewing during opening hours.
