Description / Background

The Wall of Remembrance is the focal point of a commemorative area located in the centre of the Manilla General Cemetery. The wall is built of brick and painted red. There is an octagonal pillar in front of it, covered in brown tiles. There are also two additional brick walls on either side of the main wall. The area is paved with bricks and bordered by shrubs.

The main and right-hand side walls have multiple metal plaques attached, commemorating veterans of the First and Second World Wars, Korea, Malaya, Vietnam, and 'other service'. Their names are listed on honour rolls or on individual plaques. A number of those listed are buried in the cemetery.
