Description / Background

The bells in Tamworth City Uniting Church, formerly Tamworth Methodist, are dedicated to the men and women who served in the Second World War. They were erected by the trustees of the church in 1955, following a bequest from the late Miss Maud Moffatt.

The unveiling and dedication took place during a special service on 26 June. It was reported in The Muswellbrook Chronicle on 1 July. The article said "the bells are amplified from special recordings of famous carillons." The unveiling was performed by Dr. H. R. H. Beattie, president of the Returned Sailors', Soldiers' and Airmen's Imperial League of Australia (R. S. S. & A. I. L. A.).

A plaque in the church's foyer acknowledges the gift from Miss Moffatt and contains the dedication and date of the ceremony.
