Description / Background

The memorial is a simply designed cedar honor board for the First World War. It features a classical pediment at the top and carved columns on each side. Within the pediment are colour illustrations of the Union Jack and Australian flags, which flank the earliest version of the Commonwealth Coat of Arms.

In the centre of the board is the list of those who served, printed in gold lettering across three columns. The centre column is specifically for those who died in the war and these five names are painted on top of a Union Jack flag that is at half-mast.

In 1920–1921, the Tuckurimba Progress Association took steps to establish the roll on behalf of the community. It was to include around 35 names and public subscriptions were called for to fund the approximately £15 construction cost. The roll was designed in an "Egyptian style" and made by Brown and Jolly of Lismore, NSW, a noted cabinetry and furniture making company (The Richmond River Herald and Northern Districts Advertiser, 26 April 1921).

The roll was unveiled by Mrs Greber on Empire Day, 24 May 1921, at the town's hall. The event attracted some 150 people and also included the handing over of a machine gun, captured by the 41st Battalion, to its trustees (The Richmond River Herald and Northern Districts Advertiser, 31 May 1921).

The memorial was restored around 2015 with support of an Anzac Memorial Local Grant from the Federal Government (Northern Star, 9 December 2015). It is now on display at the Mid-Richmond Historical Society Museum, also known as the Coraki Museum. Access to the memorial is restricted to the opening hours of the museum.
