Description / Background

The memorial is a large stone sculpture consisting of six sandstone columns in a hexagonal formation. They are joined at the top by sandstone 'beams', creating an open-topped structure. On the side of the pathway leading to the memorial are two bronze plaques detailing the dedication and unveiling of the memorial. Set into the floor inside the monument is a circular mosaic made of tiles and stone. The tiles around the edge of the circle bear an inscription. On the sides of the columns facing towards the circle are several bronze plaques dedicated to various areas of conflict where Australians have served.

Walcha RSL Sub-Branch began fundraising for the memorial in 2012. The project was assisted by the Walcha community, Walcha Shire Council and a $50,000 grant presented by Mr Peter Anderson MP from the NSW Government Infrastructure Program in May 2018.

The memorial was designed by Walcha sculptors James Rogers and Stephen King, with sculptor Michael Purdy. Walcha Shire Council assisted with the monument's construction. It was dedicated by Mr Kevin Anderson MP on 25 April 2019.

The memorial is located in Walcha Anzac Memorial Park, where Anzac Day and other commemorative services are held.
