Description / Background

This war memorial is an honour roll for the Second World War. It is comprised of a white marble panel, inset with two black marble columns. It is topped by a simple pediment made of two black marble pieces.

The centre of the panel features a laurel wreath, which has been inscribed into the marble and blackened. It surrounds the names of five veterans from the Wyrallah district who died serving in the war.

The memorial was unveiled on 1 October 1947 by Mr Tom Cooling of Lismore, who was well known in 'Digger' circles. The ceremony was reported in the Northern Star on 6 October. In his opening remarks, Chairman George Smith declared "the honour roll was completed free of debt, public subscription having contributed the amount required."

The memorial is located inside the Wyrallah Community Hall and is available to view when the hall is open for functions.

Note: Four of the five veterans on this roll are also commemorated on the St Thomas Anglican Church Second World War Memorial Altar Rails, Wyrallah
