Funding for war memorial conservation

Apply to the Community War Memorials Fund before 11 February 2021

The NSW Government is currently accepting applications for Round 2 of the 2020/21 Community War Memorials Fund. The program awards grants of up to $10,000 for war memorial conservation work and has supported a wide range of important projects, such as the refresh of the St George's Anglican Church Memorial Window in Parkes.

The window is the focal point of the western end of the church and was a gift from the Parkes sub-Branch of the Returned Sailors, Soldiers and Airman’s Imperial League of Australia. Donated as part of the construction of the western end of the church in the 1950s, the window is dedicated to all from the Parkes district who gave their lives during the First World War, the Second World War and the Korean War.

Among the window's rich imagery are various stars and representations of Australian Defence Force personnel who paid the ultimate sacrifice, including a young airman. The combination of the stars and the airman reminds us of the Royal Australian Air Force's motto 'Per Ardua Ad Astra', meaning 'Through Struggle to the Stars'.

St George's Anglican Church successfully applied to the 2018/2019 Community War Memorials Fund for a grant to undertake important cleaning and repairs to the window.

If your local war memorial is in need of repair or restoration, apply now for a grant through the Community War Memorials Fund. Applications close 5pm on 11 February 2021.

If you have any questions about the program, please email the NSW Office for Veterans Affairs at VeteransGrants@veterans.nsw.gov.au.
