Description / Background

The Birriwa and District Memorial is a rectangular shaped roll of honour board dedicated to the men and women of the area who served during the Second World War. It features decorative timberwork on each side of the name panels with the names printed in gold lettering. The names are listed in alphabetical order, indicating that the memorial was unveiled after the Second World War. A small cross is included in front of several of the names to indicate that they were killed in action.

The Roll of Honor was unveiled on the 8th March 1946 in the Birriwa Hall. The Mudgee Guardian and North-Western Representative reported that the unveiling was performed by Mr W. F. Dunn M.L.A. and was attended by Mr Alex Graham in his role as chairman and primary speaker. The supporting speakers included Mr W. Mahon and Councillor L.G. Burke. At the conclusion of the ceremony supper was presented by the local ladies.

The Roll of Honor board has since been relocated from the Birriwa Hall to the Dundedoo Historical Society and Museum. It is available for viewing during the museum’s opening hours.
