Sydney Victor Childs was born on 16 April 1906, in Moorebank NSW. His parents were Philip Henry Childs and Ida May Higgerson. Sydney enlisted in the CMF/AIF on 4 March 1942, and served in the 11th Australian Workshops as a Craftsman.

Sydney was discharged from the Army on 23 November 1945. He died on 14 May 1974.
