Roger Douglas Kirkpatrick was born on 20 August 1900 in Ashfield, NSW to parents John Kirkpatrick and Annie Elizabeth Morris. Roger served in both the First and Second World Wars.

Roger enlisted in the AIF on 6 May 1918. With his unit NSW Reinforcement 27, he embarked for Europe on 2 November 1918. He returned to Australia in December 1918.

Roger enlisted again during the Second World War, on 14 May 1940, in the 18 Employment Coy, CMF, and attained the rank of Sergeant. He served in Australia until discharge on 21 November 1943.

Roger was married twice, to Thelma Maud Allen, and to Phyllis Veronica Davison. Roger died on 23 February 1966, at the age of 65.
