Description / Background

A Memorial Hall and an internal plaque dedicated to the fallen of the Great War 1914-1919. 

'...The hall besides being a monument to the memory of those who served in the Great War is a decided acquisition to the town and district. The auditorium is 60 feet by 40 feet and has a seating capacity of 400. The stage is 19 feet by 13 feet 6 inches, is a big feature, and is capable of accommodating forty couples at supper tables. A reading room and library on the left and a Soldiers Club Room on the right .....' (The Maitland Weekly Mercury 9 November 1929).

The Hall was badly damaged by fire on 28 December 2015.

MEMORIAL HALL 1929

On this site was a Union Shed, selling local produce on Market days. Sold to Town in 1914 to become the School of Arts. Held the Local Picture Theatre. Burnt down in the fire of 1928. Rebuilt as Memorial Hall in 1929.
