Description / Background

The courtyard of the Aberdeen RSL and Citizens Club contains a monument and two honour rolls.

The memorial was dedicated on 24 April 1960. It is a squat concrete monument, with lacquered riverstones embedded in the surface. A Flame of Remembrance sculpture sits atop the pillar and a relief sculpture of a laurel wreath decorates the front face. The memorial is positioned on a sandstone-brick base. It was built by Nelson Donnelly.

The memorial was paid for by William Allan, who was a founding member of the club. His name is misspelt as 'Allen' on the plaque attached to the memorial and on the honour rolls nearby. It is also referred to as the Aberdeen RSL War Memorial.

The honor rolls are mounted nearby, on an exterior wall of the club. They are protected by a verandah.
