The memorial is a single large concrete block on which a bronze plaque is attached. In addition to the inscription, the plaque contains the badges of the Royal Australian Navy, Australian Commonwealth Military Forces and Royal Australian Air Force. This is one of a series of four special memorials on the pathway from the Rocky Hill War Memorial Museum to the nearby First World War memorial tower.
This plaque is to commemorate the 3rd Battalion for their struggle along the Kokoda Track and all the service men from Goulburn and District who served in the New Guinea campaigns 1941 - 1945.
