Description / Background

In June 2014, a 'Saluting Their Service' grant from the Australian Government was awarded to Laurieton RSL sub-Branch to fund memorials for the Royal Australian Air Force (R.A.A.F.) and Royal Australian Navy (R.A.N.). The memorials were built in Laurie Memorial Park, home to the Laurieton Anzac War Memorial

The R.A.A.F. memorial features an aircraft propellor attached to a wall, accompanied by the Air Force's emblem and symbols from the service. There is no inscription on the Air Force memorial. The R.A.N. memorial features an anchor attached to a wall, accompanied by the R.A.N. emblem and the Navy Ode, which is inscribed on a plaque attached to the wall. Both memorials were dedicated in 2015 and are located at the northern end of the park.

Navy Ode

They have no grave but the Cruel sea

No flowers lay at their head

A rusty hulk is their tombstone

Afast on the ocean bed

On every occasion while caps aflot

THEY HAVE NO CROSSES ROW TO ROW

But those who sleep beneath the sea

We will remember them

LEST WE FORGET
