Description / Background

The Tuncurry Lone Pine Memorial consists of three sandstone tablets, with multiple plaques attached to each tablet on each side. The monument is surrounded by concrete and pebble paving and small garden beds. Several flagstaffs are also located behind the centre tablet.

The memorial was upgraded in 2015 by the Forster-Tuncurry RSL Sub Branch, with the help of the community and both Federal and local council funding. The upgrade included the planting of a pine tree, a descendant of the original Lone Pine, and other trees to mark each war campaign. Pathways, signage and landscaped gardens were also upgraded. The upgraded memorial was rededicated in February 2015.

Prior to this upgrade, the memorial was called the 'Tuncurry War Memorial'. The original consisted of three sandstone tablets with plaques and three armed services badges attached, surrounded by brick paving and garden beds (pictured). It was dedicated on 25 April 1998.
