The Maitland Town Hall features two Boer War memorials:

Presented to the West Maitland Borough Council by The Imperial Government in commemoration of valuable service rendered in South Africa 1899-1901 by volunteers from West Maitland District.
In memory of trooper Fred Avard, who died 11th October 1900 at Carolina, Transvaal, South Africa. From the effects of wounds received in action. This tablet is erected by his comrades, “Members of the Maitland Lancers,” in recognition of his sterling and soldierly qualities.
