Description / Background

This honour board is of polished timber with glass front and painted representations of the Union Jack and Australian flag at the top. Veterans' names are in gold lettering. The memorial is located near Platform 23, as part of the Railway Remembrance Wall.

Additional information by Sydney Trains:

A large polished, carved wooden honour roll board, with 92 railways employees names who served in the First World War written in gilt in three columns, encased behind a glass pane. The inscription is decorated with the Union Jack and Australian flags.

Upon investigation, it was found to be produced by Eveleigh Locoworks staff and unveiled by NSW Premier William Holman, at Eveleigh on 24 March 1917, and contained 92 Eveleigh Locoworks railways employees names who served in the First World War only.

Apparently after the unveiling of the Eveleigh Locoworks consolidated Honour Roll WWI in 1964, it was relocated to Chullora and mistakenly refurbished as Chullora Honour Roll WWI and WWII. On its closure in 1996, it was relocated and fixed to the western Railway Remembrance Wall at Central Station.
