Loco Shop Chullora, Honour Roll 1914 - 1918 and 1939 - 1945, Railway Remembrance Wall, Central Station

Description

Part of the Railway Remembrance Wall, this honour board is of polished timber with glass front and painted representations of the Union Jack and Australian Flag at the top. Veterans' names are in gold lettering. The memorial is located near Platform 23.

Additional information by Sydney Trains:

A large polished carved wooden Honour Roll board, with 92 railways employees names who served in the First World War written in gilt in three columns, encased behind a glass pane. The inscription is decorated with the Union Jack and Australian flags.

Upon investigation it was found to be produced by Eveleigh Locoworks staff and unveiled by NSW Premier William Holman, at Eveleigh on 24 March 1917, and contained 92 Eveleigh Locoworks railways employees names who served in the First World War only (see unveiling photograph at State Library of NSW).

Apparently after the unveiling of the Eveleigh Locoworks consolidated Honour Roll WWI in 1964, it was relocated to Chullora and mistakenly refurbished as Chullora Honour Roll WWI and WWII, and on its closure in 1996 was relocated and fixed to the western Railway Remembrance Wall at Central Station.
