Description / Background

This roll of honour is made from Queensland silky oak. It has a classical pediment at the top, carved columns on either side and illustrations of stylised tulip flowers flanking the names. The names of those who worshipped at the Presbyterian and Methodist Church at Saumarez Ponds and volunteered for the First World War are printed in gilt in the centre of the roll. The roll was a gift to the church by Misses F. and R. Mitchell. The unveiling ceremony was performed by Mr T.R. Mitchell of 'Strathroy'.

The church was sold by December 1932 and then demolished. The roll was moved to the Johnstone Memorial Hall next to St Paul's Presbyterian Church in Armidale.
