The memorial is a marble cenotaph, raised on two steps made of the same material. It is surmounted by a bronze statue of Simpson and his Donkey. The front face of the cenotaph features a laurel wreath, surrounding the words 'We will remember them'. The whole is surrounded by a chain-link fence.
The memorial is located in Anzac Park, facing Vernon Street. It stands in front of the Coffs Harbour Memorial Wall and adjacent to the Coffs Harbour Ex-servicemen and Women's Memorial Club. Commemorative services are held in the park.
