Description / Background

The Warialda Standard on 24 May 1943 reported Mr and Mrs J. A. McGregor had received news their son John was a prisoner of war in a Malayan camp. Later that year, the Warialda Standard on 6 December 1943 reported Mrs M. Stevenson had received information her nephew, Charles Cruickshank was a prisoner of war in Java. On Sunday 27 March 1949, two marble tablets with inscriptions were dedicated to these soldiers in the Warialda Presbyterian Church, also known as St Stephen's. Reverend P. A. Smith from Penshurst joined Reverend R. MacArthur in the special morning service.
