Description / Background

The Ashford War Memorial consists of several elements, positioned on a base of pavers and concrete. At the front of the area is a three-stepped monument, faced with tiles. A dedication plaque is attached to the top step.

Behind the monument is a stack of two large bushrocks. A bronze 'Australia Remembers' plaque, in honour of those who served in the Second World War, is attached to the top rock. Plaques such as these were part of a Federal Government program to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the end of the war.

Flanking the stack are two brick walls, each with multiple bronze plaques attached. The plaques on the left wall are inscribed with the areas of conflict Australians have served in since the Boer War. The plaques on the right wall list peace keeping missions.

The memorial is the combined work of the Ashford RSL, Inverell Shire Council and the Ashford people. It was unveiled by Mr Richard Torbay MP, Northern Tablelands Ashford R.S.L. and Inverell Shire Council, on 25 April 2011.

The memorial is located in front of the Ashford Memorial Pool. Anzac Day services are held on site.
