Description / Background

A memorial swimming pool, opened in 1968. At the front of the complex is a brick building which houses facilities for the public during the swimming season. A plaque detailing the official opening of the pool by the Hon. Davis Hughes, M.L.A. Minister for Public Works, is located near the front entrance.

During the period Mr Hughes was Minister, he opened many memorial swimming pools throughout the state. At one stage it was reported some 70 pools were to be constructed in New South Wales. In many communities, a memorial baths committee was established to raise money, and the final construction of the pool was the combined efforts of the committee, as well as local and state government.

The Ashford War Memorial is located outside the facilities building.
