Description / Background

This war memorial building is a bowling club, located in Ashford, NSW. It was established in 1959 in honour of those who served in the First and Second World Wars. It has a bowling green outside and a clubhouse, which has a design typical of the 1950s period. It has a small gabled roof, with a large number of aluminum windows and doorways, so that those inside can view the bowls greens. The club caters to members and public and offers food and drinks for social occasions.

After the Second World War, a number of recreation and sporting clubs were created throughout the country to provide leisure activities for members. The Ashford Memorial Bowling Club is similar to the Delungra Memorial Bowling and Recreation Club, west of Inverell.
