Bective, Byambee and Winton via Tamworth First World War Roll of Honour Middle Image Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background This memorial is a plain, paper roll of honour for the First World War, presented in a simple timber frame. The roll consists of 20 names, precisely printed in black ink, across two columns. Two veterans, Private Arthur Farthing and Private Peter Mooney, are marked with a Latin cross, indicating they made the supreme sacrifice. There are two metal plaques attached to the wall below the roll. The first plaque lists the names of the three rural communities the roll relates to, which is useful as the roll itself does not contain any information other than the names of those who served. The communities of Bective, Byambee, and Winton, were located west of Tamworth, NSW, near the Somerton Village. 'Bective Pastoral Station' was a large pastoral holding developed in the district. It is unknown where the roll was originally unveiled, displayed, or stored. It is now located in the Somerton War Memorial Hall. Access to the memorial is restricted to the opening hours of the hall.
