Description / Background

The memorial is a large granite bushrock, positioned upright on a concrete base, flanked by two flagpoles. Inset into the base is a plaque bearing the words 'Lest we forget'. The concrete is surrounded by a bed of rocks, which form a cobblestone-style border around the memorial.

Attached to the front face of the bushrock are four bronze plaques. The top plaque depicts an eternal flame surrounded by a wreath, which includes the words 'Lest we forget'. Below this are two plaques, positioned side-by-side. On the left is an honour roll listing six veterans who made the supreme sacrifice in the Second World War. On the right is a plaque listing members of the Delungra RSL sub-Branch as at May 2000. The bottom plaque is the largest of the four and is inscribed with an honour roll of those who served in the Second World War, Malaysia, and Vietnam. Two veterans, Private Eric Lance Hobday and Temporary Corporal Harvey Arnold Newnham, are inscribed on both rolls.

The memorial is located in the centre of Delungra's Anzac Park, which is the site of commemorative services. A concrete footpath leads to the memorial from the Delungra Anzac Park Memorial Gates. The path features the image of a kangaroo at the gates end and a kiwi at the bushrock end. This decorative detail references the strong relationship between Australia and New Zealand, which is a key element of the design of the gates.

The path was constructed in 2015 as part of the upgrade to the park for the Centenary of ANZAC commemorations (The Inverell Times, 5 February 2015).
