Description / Background

The Dunedoo and District Second World War Honour Roll is a rectangular shaped wooden board with a glass panel covering the front. The board lists the names of 40 men and women from the Dunedoo District that served during the Second World War. It is now located in the Dunedoo Museum.

The title of the board reads "DUNEDOO & DISTRICT HONOUR ROLL - ON ACTIVE SERVICE IN DEFENCE OF OUR EMPIRE" which, along with the fact that the name are not listed in alphabetical order, suggests that the board was produced whilst the war was ongoing. On 14 October 1943 the Mudgee Guardian published an article on behalf of S. Blyton, the honorary secretary of the Dunedoo Soldiers Welfare Association and Australian Comforts Fund, calling for the names of servicemen and women for a Dunedoo District Honour Roll. Whilst it cannot be confirmed, this may be in reference to this roll of honour board. Despite this effort, a different, larger Roll of Honour board was erected in 1949 which also commemorates the men and women from the Dunedoo district who served in the Second World War.
