Description / Background

This memorial is a stylised brass honour roll made to commemorate the members of the Dunedoo Masonic Lodge who served during the First World War. It was created by the Wunderlich Company in Sydney. Wunderlich specialised in manufacturing tiles and pressed metal ceilings. After World War One they created memorials featuring different designs which changed overtime. They are known to have reused the same design model for different memorials. This can be seen in the similarities between the design of this board and the Drake Lodge Honour Roll.

The memorial is divided into three sections. The left and right sections of the board feature vertical panels with space for the names of members of the lodge who served in the war to be engraved. The roll only features six names, all of which are engraved on the left hand side panel. At the top of the board is a small metal plaque with the name of the lodge “Loyal Dunedoo Lodge No. 293”. The centre panel features the Rising Sun emblem of the Australian Imperial Forces (AIF) with the word “ANZAC” printed on top of it. A laurel wreath is featured in the centre of the panel with the words “In Honour of the Members of this Lodge who served the Empire in the Great War” printed in the centre. Under the wreath are the dates “1914” and “1919” signifying the start and end of the war.

The bottom of the roll has a circular shaped design and a two-sided scroll which has “M. U. I.O.O.F. printed on it. Which stands for the Manchester Unity Independent Order of Oddfellows.
