Description / Background

This First World War roll of honour is made of polished North Queensland cedar. It is rectangular in shape, and topped by a classical pediment featuring decorative carving. The main body of the board consists of three panels, on which the names are painted in gold. The left and right side panels list those who served and the centre panel lists those who lost their lives. The main body is flanked by fluted Ionic columns, which are topped with Grecian capitals, finished in gold. At the time of dedication, the roll measured 5 feet by 3 feet.

The memorial was dedicated in the Mullumbimby Presbyterian Church on 27 October 1916. The Mullumbimby Star, 2 November 1916, described the dedication service and roll in detail. The service was presided over by Reverend D. McLennan and Miss Argue performed the unveiling. Reverend M. Walker also addressed the audience.

The unveiling was originally advertised for Thursday, 19 October (Mullumbimby Star, 12 October 1916). This date was cancelled and the postponed date was again advertised in the Star on 26 October 1916.

The memorial has since been moved to the church's office. Access to the memorial is restricted by the venue.
