The Newcastle Civic Park Memorial Grove is a commemorative and reflective garden space, with multiple memorials and plaques positioned throughout. Features include a column surmounted by an eagle statue and a memorial tree. There are also numerous plaques for individual servicemen, inscribed with the date of their death.

Stone steps, left side

Memorial Grove designed by Augustus Aley, A.R.A.I.A. and implemented by Newcastle City Council for the Newcastle Groups of the Garden Club of Australia. Here find quietness and peace and appreciate the consecrated service to humanity of all those who abandoned self interest for the ideal of freedom in our time. Dedicated by The Lord Bishop of Newcastle The Right Reverend A.G. Housden, B.A., Th.D. on Sunday 12th November 1961.

Stone steps, right side

The steps leading to this memorial grove were contributed by the Newcastle and District Council of Sub-Branches R.S.S.& A.I.L.A. and the R.S.L. clubs to honour the memory of those who served in the cause of freedom. Lest we forget. Unveiled by the President of the District Council, Mr W.A. Wade, on Armistice Day, Sunday, the 11th November 1962. H. James - Treasurer M. G. Turner - Secretary.

Royal Australian Air Force Memorial erected by Newcastle Branch Air Force Association and Newcastle City Council in memory of R.A.A.F. members who paid the supreme sacrifice. Don G. McHattie, G.M. Sculptor, ex R.A.A.F.

Column, centre

The R.A.A.F. Wedgetail Eagle Aquila Audax (Noble Bird)

The eagle has stood for courage and bravery ever since the time of the Roman Legions and is a worthy representative of the R.A.A.F. as portrayed on the service badge. The eagle portrayed on the column is directly carved from a solid block of local sandstone and is in repose, having the wings folded in memory of the dead.

Legacy tree

Legacy tree

This tree was planted by Newcastle Legacy Club 28 August 1968 in memory of departed comrades. This tree is a seedling of the 24 Battalion tree growing at the Memorial Shrine at Melbourne. The 24 Battalion Tree was grown from a pine cone from the original Lone Pine at Gallipoli picked up by a soldier of that battalion just prior to the final evacuation from the peninsula in 1915.

HMAS Condamine

Modified River Class Frigate Built at State Dockyard, Newcastle Commissioned 22nd February 1946. Served in the Korean War July 1952–April 1953 and March 1955–November 1955. Decommissioned 2nd December 1955. Erected by HMAS Condamine Association 25.2.1996.
