Description / Background

The memorial is a simply designed honour roll for the First World War. It is made of white marble and is decorated with a stylised version of the emblem of the Australian Imperial Force, featuring the words 'Lest we forget'.

The names are listed in alphabetical order in two columns and are highlighted in black. Two of the veterans, Second Lieutenant David McNeil Heugh and Private Oliver Richard Young, are marked with a cross, indicating they made the supreme sacrifice.

The roll is attached to the front of the Somerton War Memorial Hall, opposite the matching Somerton War Memorial Hall Second World War Honour Roll.
