Description / Background

The St John's War Memorial Parish Centre is constructed on the northern side of St John's Anglican Church. The original corner stone of St John's Hall was laid on 22 February 1888. The War Memorial Parish Centre was erected in 1964, the centenary year of the Diocese of Canberra and Goulburn, as an act of thanksgiving for those who served.

The foundation stone of the memorial building was set by the Right Reverend K J Clements, Bishop of Canberra and Goulburn, on 8 August 1964. The dedication of the War Memorial Parish Centre, along with the restored church spire, raised tower and rectory, was performed by the Right Reverend Clements on 21 March 1965. Following which the centre was officially opened by the Most Reverend P N W Strong, C M G, Archbishop of Brisbane.

The parish centre was designed by architects N W McPherson, D A Harrison and K A Hassall and built by H C Buckman and Son Pty Ltd.

These buildings were erected and St John's Church

This stone was set by the Rt. Revd. K.J. Clements,
Bishop of Canberra and Goulburn on 8th August 1964.
