Description / Background

The roll of honor is made of embossed copper. It is simply decorated with an embossed frame attached to all sides and a metal wreath positioned below the names. The names are incised on individual brass plaques and attached to the centre panel. The inscription does not include the end year of the war.

The roll was unveiled by Mayor T.A. Goddard of Maclean, at the Gulmarrad School in Taloumbi on 12 August 1916. After Alderman Goddard performed the unveiling and spoke, a number of other community representatives gave speeches. The event was covered in detail in the 16 August edition of The Grafton Argus. The account listed the 21 names on the roll at the time of the ceremony and indicated other name plaques would be added as others enlisted.

The roll has since been moved to the Maclean Services Club. Access to the memorial is restricted to the opening hours of the club.
