Tamworth and District Second World War Monument Middle Image Image Image Image Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background The memorial is a monument made of black polished granite, consisting of four vertical panels mounted on a large granite plinth, set on a surround of pavers. A figure is etched on each of the four panels, with the first three representing servicemen from The Royal Australian Navy, The Australian Army and The Royal Australian Airforce, with the fourth depicting the Women's Services. On each side of the plinth is etched an alphabetical list of those from the Tamworth district who served in the Second World War. A metal plaque details the unveiling of the monument on 9 February 1997 by Major General "Digger" James, AO, MBE, MC. Further names were added to the memorial in 1998. The monument is located in the Bicentennial Park near other war memorials, listed in the 'Related memorials' section below.
