Description / Background

The Tenterfield War Memorial Baths are "dedicated to all those who served Australia at war".

By December 1951, the existing baths were in poor condition. Action was taken for new baths and The Northern Star, on 10 November 1952, reported the outlined plans for the construction of a modern swimming pool. A sub-committee had been formed at an earlier public meeting and presented a report to a public meeting held that month. The Municipal Council was to be asked to contact the Local Government Department for an official to visit and the sub-committee requested the pool be constructed as a war memorial.

On 5 December 1952, The Manilla Express reported the Tenterfield Baths Committee hoped to build the pool for £30,000. It was constructed by the Municipal Council, assisted by the committee. On 27 November 1965, the pool was opened by the Hon. Davis Hughes, MLA, Minister for Public Works.
