Description / Background

A weatherboard Anglican Church building located at Delungra, NSW. Cooper and Seagrave Builders and Contractors of Inverell were the successful tenderers for the construction, with a bid of £3,276, 3 shillings. It was dedicated by Archdeacon of Armidale, the Venerable Clifford R. Rothero on 28 March 1958. The vicar was the Reverend Laurie Seymour. Mr Rothero described it as "a beautiful Church, modern, appealing".

A list of veterans was prepared, but no roll of honour was erected. Memorial plaques were placed on the pews in recognition of the donors, some of whom were veterans. Some pews were also memorials to First World War servicemen. "One pew was given in memory of comrades of the 12th (Army) Field Artillery Brigade A.I.F." wrote D. A. Wiedemann in Onward and Upward (ISBN 9-78-0-646-91108-3, 2013). Another was given in memory of Private Gordon John Makim SN: NX42217, prisoner of war who died of illness on 17 June 1945 in Borneo. Families such as Bartolomew, Bryant, Coote, Ford, Lenord, Lock, Mepam, Newnham, Redman, and Ross were donors of pews. These family names appear on a memorial rock in the park at the corner of MacIntyre and Railway Streets, Delungra (pictured).
