Description / Background

This Roll of Honour board is located within the Woodstock Soldiers Memorial Hall. It was made to commemorate the men and women from the Woodstock area that served during the Second World War. It consists of metal board with decorative panels on both the left and right sides. The top of the board features the combined crest of the Australian Army, Airforce and Navy. 105  names are listed in the centre of the board within three columns. Each name is printed on an individual brass plate. 97 names are listed in the main list whilst an additional eight names are listed under the heading of Women's Services. Several of the names have a gold cross printed next to them which indicates that these men and women were killed in action.  The roll is mounted onto a wooden backing board next to the First World War Roll of Honour.

Located beneath the main board is a small frame which features the photographs and details of two service personal, NFX76279 Staff Nurse Janet Kerr, 13th AGH, who was killed whilst on active service in Singapore on 16 February 1942 and NX31809 Private Arnold Hutton Bennett, 2/20 Battalion, who died of illness in Thailand on 4 December 1943. Both of these people are also listed on the roll of honour.
