2020 marks 75 years since the end of the Second World War. To commemorate this important year, the NSW Government interviewed WWII veterans about their experiences. Read our 75th Anniversary Stories.
Wrought iron gates with white painted pillars. The words 'A.D. 1902' are displayed at the top of each pillar. A marble plaque in the shape of a shield bearing an inscription is attached to the front of each pillar.
The memorial is located 50m west of Durhan Street.
The Alexander Gates.
Erected by the public of Clarence Town and District to the memory of Private Alexander William Eagleton, killed in battle at Onverwaght, South Africa 4th Jan 1902 aged 22 years.
Afric's sun shines on his grave, Afric's dews rest on the sod, his life for freedom's cause be gave his soul now rests in peace with God.
