Armidale Teachers' College Second World War Book of Remembrance

The intention to record the names of all college students who served during the Second World War was announced in Armidale Teachers' College periodical, The Collegian, on 26 September 1945.

During the 1946 Easter Reunion of Students, it was planned to create the first volume of the 'Book of Remembrance'.  It was to be completed in four volumes and was to be housed in a case donated by Mr and Mrs W.C.V. Havilah, the first college couple to marry.

At the time, a voluntary committee was compiling records. The special case and the first volume listing all those who died was completed and dedicated on 19 April 1946. The subsequent three volumes were not completed, although all records of those who served were compiled.

A Community Grant was later obtained from the Armidale City Council to create a replica of the original book. A dedication ceremony was held for the replica on Remembrance Day, Saturday 11 November 2000.

The replica is located in the upstairs foyer of the college. The original is in the Heritage Centre, University of New England Archives in the grounds of the C.B. Newling building behind the college.
