The Canowindra War Memorial is a rectanuglar monument, with a peaked top piece. It is made of black marble and stands on a platform consisting of three concrete steps. Its front face is decorated with a gold laurel wreath, including the words 'Lest we forget'.
The memorial is surrounded by concrete paving, which is inset with four colourful artworks. Three of the artworks depict a veteran in uniform, representing the Royal Australian Navy, Australian Army, and Royal Australian Air Force. The fourth artwork shows a nurse in uniform, representing the Australian Red Cross.
Restoration of the monument, platform, and artworks took place in 2021. As shown in image 7 above, the colour in the portraits had faded and they have now been fully repainted. The project was coordinated by Canowindra RSL sub-Branch and proudly supported by a Community War Memorials Fund grant from the NSW Government.
The memorial is located in Canowindra Memorial Park. It is connected to the Canowindra War Memorial Arch via a paved walkway. Commemorative services are held in the park and wreaths are laid on the memorial, as shown in image 2 above.
