Description / Background

The memorial is a trachyte pillar, featuring four Corinthian columns with bronze capitals, positioned on a stepped base. On top of the pillar is a bronze statue of a Digger 'at the ready'. Inscribed beneath the figure are the words 'Freedom, Justice and Australia'.

The statue was designed and executed by William Priestly Macintosh and the pillar was designed by Oscar Backhouse.
