Description / Background

Brick monument, covered with cement render. The top face of the memorial is clad in slate. On top of the slate is a captured German machine gun. In the middle of the monument are several marble plaques with dedications. On the front face are two bronze plaques listing First World War service personnel from the Hill End and Tambaroora District.

The memorial is surrounded by a wrought iron fence and gate. Above the gate is an arch bearing a dedication. There is also a flagpole to the rear of the enclosure. The memorial is located in the centre of the Hill End village.

The memorial with plaques 1 and 2 (see below), and the fence with gate and arch, were unveiled on 9 November 1930. Plaque 3 was established post-1945, and plaques 4 and 5 in 1998.
