Description / Background

The Myall Creek Memorial Hall is typical of country halls built in the 1920s. It is of timber construction, with a wide verandah and metal roof.

A Myall Creek Hall fund was established by September 1922 and the community set out to raise funds for its construction. On 11 May 1923, The Inverell Times reported the long awaited construction was now underway at Myall Creek Recreation Reserve. On 26 June 1923, they reported Legord Bros. had completed the works. The structure included a stage measuring 11 feet by 25 feet and an anteroom with pavilions on both sides. The floor space measured 50 feet by 25 feet and consisted of picked Cypress Pine.

The hall was officially declared open by Mr N. H. Richards on Friday 24 August 1923. It was dedicated to those from the community who served in the First World War. A dance followed the opening, and visitors came from Delungra, Bingara, Barraba, Inverell and the Myall Creek district.

The hall is used for public commemorations and services, and access is available by appointment.
