St Anne's Church Ryde - War Memorial Vestries

The introduction of heraldry in the windows of the War Memorial Vestries is traditional in English church architecture and is especially appropriate in this historic church. The badges of the three armed services are in memory of thos members of the armed services who paid the supreme sacrifice in World War II 1939-1945. They were donated by the ex-Service organisations of this parish and of this district. The five ecclesiastical shields depict the ancient Sees of Canterbury and York; the arms of the Doicese af Calcutta which included Australia when St Anne's was built in 1826. There is also the symbol of St Anne. These are in honour of [names - refer below]. Who served or fell in both World Wars together with other parishioners whose names are not recorded but who likewise served or fell in defence of their country. Donated by their friends and relatives. 'We Will Remember Them ..' 6 November 1955.
