The Third Quarantine Station Cemetery, North Head

This is the third and final cemetery used at the North Head Quarantine Station. It opened in 1881, for the burial of victims of Sydney's smallpox epidemic.

From 1881 to 1925 there were approximately 241 people buried here, nearly all of them victims of infectious diseases. These people included Sydney residents, immigrants, travellers, ships crews, returning servicemen and quarantine staff.
