Armidale Teachers' College Second World War Roll of Honour Middle Image Image Image Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background The roll of honour consists of three timber honour boards located on the first floor of the C. B. Newling Building, formerly Armidale Teachers' College (A.T.C.). The honour boards record the names, year of attendance at the college and their fate in the Second World War. In 1946, a voluntary A.T.C. committee collected the names of all who served. In April 2002, the Armidale Dumaresq Council approved a grant for a roll to record the name of every student, ex-student and member of A.T.C. staff who enlisted in the Second World War. The Armidale Teachers' College Book of Remembrance (Volume 1) was completed and dedicated on 19 April 1946, however the other two volumes were not completed. A member of the Friends of the Old Teachers' College, Judith Magnus Grieve (OAM), completed all records in March 2003 and this work provided the names for the timber boards. The roll was dedicated on Sunday 9 March 2003 by Retired Chaplain W. Howarth RANR, RFD. The roll complements the Book of Remembrance, and won a Heritage Award from the Armidale Dumaresq Council in 2005. On Thursday 17 March 2016, additions to the College Honour Boards were dedicated. The dedication was conducted by the Very Reverend Stephen Williams, Dean of St Peter's Anglican Cathedral, and Max Taverner, president of the Armidale RSL Sub-Branch. The additions consisted of a photograph of Geoffrey Newling, the youngest son of the founding principal of the College, C. B. Newling, and wording on the honour roll which paid tribute to the many ex-service personnel who attended the Teachers' College after the Second World War.
