Description / Background

Located in the picturesque surroundings of Balls Head Reserve in Waverton, this metal drinking fountain was installed in honour of those who served in the First World War. The fountain stands on two concrete steps, which are inscribed with the dedication.

The fountain was a gift from Mr W. M. Ford. It was in place in time for a tree planting day held on 4 August 1934. Since its official opening as a public reserve in October 1926, 1,000 trees had been planted on site. Three hundred more were to be planted by local school children at the August event, which was presided over by the Mayor of North Sydney (The Sun, 4 August 1934).
