During the period of the First World War, Clifton's Ltd operated a motor garage in the town as well as a motorcar service between Barraba, Manilla and Tamworth. Each of the employees served, and the roll was created to reflect that service. D. V. Clifton was the governing director, Laurie Clifton the secretary, and Arthur Halloran, Fred Darcy, Oscar Ashford, Harry Dengate, and Fred and Gordon Sherwood were the drivers.
